Bakersfield Computer GuyÂ® is owned and operated locally in Bakersfield, California. When Eric Thompson (Founder) first began working with personal computers in the late 1980's, he was 8 years old. He had great support from family and friends who never called him a nerd for spending endless hours working on old "DOS" based PC's. Eric continued his work with PC's while MicrosoftÂ® sculpted the Personal Computing Environment. He was among the first to get his own copy of Windows 3.1! When Windows 95 initially landed on the shelves in August of 1995 it sold over 1 million copies during the first week! This new Operating System created by MicrosoftÂ® was fully loaded with more features and graphics than any of its predecessors. It was extremely plug n' play compatible and much more user friendly than any of the previous OS versions!
With the advent of the Internet, computers now could view live "Web" pages which contained information in the body surrounded with images! This brought about certain dangers such as Hackers, Viruses, and now even Spyware! Security became an issue that every single computer connected to the internet zone will forever have to face. Software Developers had to deal with this accordingly by creating programs called Firewalls and Anti-Virus solutions that would protect from potential dangers lurking around in cyberspace.
